Maritime Business Course Duration:
DURATION – 3 YEARS FULL TIME
YEAR 1
-Introduction to the shipping industries.
-Maritime practice.
-The English legal system.
-Micro and macroeconomics.
-The structure of the shipping industry, the commercial shipping fleet, cargoes, and basic training patterns are examined.
-Human resource management and financial and management accounting are considered.
-In addition, you will have the opportunity to study the basic functions of business, including human resource management ,financial and management accounting and data interpretation.
YEAR 2
-Modules consider legal issues and contractual practices, techniques required for the transfer of goods and explore principles and practices of marketing and management.
-Commercial practice is also studied, providing a wider perspective of international trading systems and involving aspects of law related to ship operations.
-Year two is concerned with the operational and applied practice within maritime business.
-Modules consider legal issues and contractual practices ,examine applied economics concepts ,assess techniques required for the safe transfer of goods ,and explore principles and practices of marketing and management.
-You will also again grounding in research methodologies including data collection ,analytical techniques and presentation of findings.
YEAR 3
-Focus is given to shipping policy, finance ,econometrics, and strategic decision making.
-Specialist modules in law cover admiralty law ,including salvage,ship registration and marine insurance and the law of carriage of goods by sea.
-A dissertation provides an opportunity to undertake a supervised piece of empirical work.
-The final year if the course develops a detailed understanding of maritime business at a strategic level and provides a detailed in depth study of maritime law.

The MA in Maritime history comprises a range of innovative modules concerning the development of the maritime aspects of Britain and Europe. It can be taken as a self- contained programme or as preparation for research at M Phil and PhD level
