Captain on Bulk Carrier got Killed by Parted Mooring Line:-

The Master on Bulk Carrier M.V Union Medal lost his life when a mooring line parted and hit him,causing his death.

At  port Ilo,  M.V Union Medal was Loading copper concentrate. 

When one of the mooring line parted due to surging, 

The Captain came on deck to evaluate the condition. 

As he was assessing the situation second line broke off to strike him and killed him.

A study has shown that 20% of such accidents happens due to self negligence .

Due regards at all times must be paid to own safety.

It is really important to avoid this kind of accidents .

Mooring ropes are thick  ropes called mooring lines or mooring  hawsers. The ropes are used to tie ship to jetty and are fixed to deck bits on the vessel at one end and to bollards on the other end.tying ship on jetty requires cooperation between people on a port and on a vessel, which is also called as stations.

During a ship’s mooring procedure, the largest amount of injuries and fatalities are due to the parting of the rope or wire hitting a crew member standing in the rope region. The region traveled by the split rope is known as the snap back zone, with a force sufficient to murder a individual on his manner.
