Job Role Of Deck Rating

JOB ROLE OF DECK RATING:

Those Candidates who are just 10th passed can also join Merchant navy as Deck rating who work as support staff and helps in daily maintenance of the ship.After finishing successful sea time and clearing exam rating can too become officer.

DECK RATINGS :

Deck Rating is responsible for cargo handling, mooring/ un mooring and general maintenance of the ship, addition to that carry out Bridge watch, cargo watch.

 Steering of the ship as and when required.

Trainee O.S/Trainee seaman: -Onboard as a trainee, usually, the Trainee O.s  has to assist the Bosun at all times, Bosun take cares of him as Trainee O.s is new on the ship

Ordinary Seaman:- Carries out daily maintenance of the ship, assist during Anchor stations, arrival & departure of ports, Cleaning of holds and tanks, Assist AB in Gangway watches, Bridge lookout, etc.

Able-Bodied Seaman :-In addition to daily maintenance of the ship, the important duty of AB is to steer the ship as and when required, He also assists the duty officer in ship navigation watch, Gangway watch, etc

Bosun:- Bosun is head in crew and is responsible to follow all instructions from the chief officer, he assigns everyday job roles to crew directed by the chief officer. He is also the spokesperson of the crew department and is responsible for supervising the crew and bringing their concerns and complains to the chief officer

Deck Fitter:- Deck Fitter is only called up on few ships and only few company provides job to deck fitter as most of the work which comes up on deck is been done by the Engine fitter.

Deck fitter is responsible for cutting welding , repair of damage parts and also helps during mooring and un mooring operations.

A Trainee who joins the ship as Trainee seaman or Trainee O.S can become Bosun in a span of 5 years time provided the candidate has put good effort hard work and dedication .
